Dear echocluster.com players,
I hope you had a joyful christmas with family and friends. And as we are approaching 2008 (in exactly 6 hours here) I think it's time for a quick update to let you know if 2008 is gonna be a good year or not.
I know it has been some time since I have posted an update about the current host problem what is because there was no good progress to tell about and always when I made a step forward something worse unseen showed up on another side. I'll tell about the problem and the progress so far in a few sentences for those who care so you know what's up and what to expect soon:
After the HDD breakdown that stopped hosting suddenly in the beginning I rescued the game data and hosting files successfully. There was some loss on some files that I got back from backups tho. After data analyzation only one game needs a rehost to be back on track - the game data for all games itself seems fine.
While I was working on the files the website was down in november for about a week as you might have noticed. I noticed this pretty late and it seemed to be some problem on the hosting server. The support team used a backup to restore the site but some threads on the forum and news postings were lost in the process.
I transfered the data to another system to get it running again asap - so I hoped - but it didn't work for some unseen reason and resulted in bad data. So I copied it to several other hdds and finally on a new data drive which lead to several problems because all game-directory-pathes in the hosting system were set to drive C:. That's why I needed to adjust them all manually to Drive E: were it is now based.
That took a lot of time just to find out in the end there seems to be some problem with the database for all games which is not working properly and giving me some strange error messages. However this is somethig that can be fixed and is just a question of time!
So expect the hosts to be running soon again in early 2008. I will keep you posted about the progress in the next days. Let's all cheer up for a good, VGAP friendly, 2008! :)
